When I joined the George Formby Society in 1991 it was at the famed Warrington Exhibition. I had tried to find the GFS in the 1970s but no luck. So when I went to Warrington I took a video camera with me. All I wanted to do was to capture the sights and sounds of George Formby who I had listened to as a child. I had no intention of ever playing a banjo-uke but I am so glad that Kathryn pushed me in that direction. When I attended my first convention in 1992 I made sure the video camera came with me and since then I have been filming the players right up to September 2023. Committee duties for over twenty years meant that I could not film every meeting but even so, I still have a nice archive to look back on. All I ever wanted to do was to prolong my weekend by filming and taking the footage home with me to watch another day. Nothing has changed! The latest conventions are available below.
